FINALLY, THE FINALE! THE KATAPUSAN! THE 피날레 !!! (WTH!?!?)

THIS POST WOULD BE TOTALLY PERSONALLY!

Woot! Finally, this course is almost over! Tomorrow is the last day and all our hardwork would be finally judged. This journey in EIR has been an amazing experience. Both the lecturer and the students are wonderful and this whole lot is just amazing. And now that i know so much more about doing effective research, i am sure these skills would be put to use in my GET course.
Thank you for being such a patient teacher and thank everyone for just being in the room joking around! ^_^

Jereld here and signing off!
Individual Blog Activity (Reflection on Wiki Experience)

The most significant learning experience for me is my increased knowledge on hurricanes. As a nature-lover, i already knew a couple of information on hurricanes based on my general knowledge. However, upon searching deeper on the internet for data on hurricanes, i learned alot more then a expected and the results of some search amazes me.

Did you know that people were lucky that Hurricane Andrew in the past, tracked a mere 20 miles north of where it made landfall, causing damage of up to $30 billion while two studies estimate that losses could have exceeded $60 billion.

And as an individual contributor, i learned alot from the previous students who posted on wiki. Their information is very comprehensive and helps me alot in my research on hurricanes.

The biggest challenge in this project is to find information which was NOT already posted on wiki. Since the past years, the accumulation of information on the wiki makes students work harder year after year. My first impression of the wiki was "Wah! So much information already in here how to add somemore?!". But even though this was the greatest challenge, it was the greatest factor that make researching fun. Where's the fun when there is nothing to hinder your progress?

Some advice to give to the students in the next batch is to start working from Day 1 and DON'T keep ALL the work for the last minute. A little may do but still, it is better not to. ^_^

I don't think i will be using Wiki for my research in my own diploma as there is no such subject in Wiki.

And yet again, this was supposingly the LAST post on this blog but i thought of making another one which reflects my journey in this course. Cya!
Tutorial 3&4

I find that Twitter has not help my learning in EIR as it has done nothing in helping my research. It also cannot hold alot information as the tweet are meant to be short. I am not a fan of Twitter and i do not like using Twitter. When comparing it with blogger, i find blogger to be more effective as i can post large amount of reflections on it.

I can use Twitter and Blogspot for research purposes by posting up my research and re-reading them easily. I can also keep track of my work progress by seeing through the past posts.
Practical 10 (Final)

My favourite metaphor is "Busy as a bee." and this is metaphor shows exactly how i was during this course. As a socialble person, i am still in very close contact with my secondary school friends and i go out with them almost everyday after class. Usually, i reach home around 11pm everyday and i have to rush my work to compile everything for the portfolio part 1 & 2. I have been sleeping for around 4 hours for the past few days as the project was a rush.

In class, i balance my time of work and play and although i may seem to play alot during class time, i do stay back to complete my work.

The most important lesson i learnt during this course is time management skills. Although i am very busy, i was able to cope with the amount of work given and this was unexpected of myself since i HATE doing work at home.

Combined with the work from another CDS, Transnational Studies, life have been torturous during the time of this course. The only way i managed to pull through was the rejuvenating time i spent with my friends. My social life is VERY important compared to my work and i am willing to spend alot time on it even though i may have cramped up my worktime.

And even though it is the final practical and supposingly, final post, there is still two more post regarding the tutorials i have to do. Imma do that now so cya!

Practical 8 & 9

My dream holiday to Antarctica!
I chose Antarctica beside have long wished to see the Northern Lights! These auroras are the most magically sight anyone can see on planet Earth.

Aside from being the best place for sight-seeing auroras, Antarctica also has rare wild animals i would like to encounter such as the polar bear and the arctic fox.

And if i am lucky enough, i might even get a glimpse of the endangered snow leopard!

I used Accuracy to evaluate the website for my dream holiday as i do not wan to get things wrong for my holiday!
Practical 7

I used the Coverage and Accuracy criteria to evaluate Stomp.com. i chose these 2 criteria because i find them to be the most important in any news website. From this activity of seeing Stomp in a professional way and judging it, i learnt that Stomp.com is a site that shows many irrelevant articles and gossips and this attracts unrequired comments.

Practical 6

I think it depends on what the researcher is searching for when seeing which is more effective to search on. However, i think that normal search engines, meta-search and subject directories would be more effective as they give more results compared to the invisible web. I doubt i will be using the invisible web on my topic as my research topic can be easily searched for on the web. However, i may be using the invisible web for my diploma as i may have to research for some programming skills which might be harder to search for normally. i have learnt that i still have so much more to learn. Young and naive, i once thought that everything was sweet and simple. However, after going through this practical, i realized that i do not even fully understand the thing that i have been using to commonly, the Internet.
